Make Sunscreen a Part of Your Daily Routine

You are probably getting tired of hearing about how damaging the sun can be to your skin and the importance of the right sunscreen for healthy and proper skin care, but I can’t stress this enough. Sunscreen is one of the best skin care tips I could give anyone. If I could go back and tell my younger self to wear sunscreen every day, I would in a heartbeat.

Ultraviolet rays are the number one cause of wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots and worst of all, skin cancer. However, please note that all sunscreens are not the same. To get the best protection for your skin, you should choose a sunscreen with right SPF i.e. 40 or higher, so that it blocks UVB and UVA rays and protects your skin.

Sunscreen needs to be applied every day, year round, regardless of the weather. Ultraviolet rays break through cloud coverage and they can actually get some of the worst damage to your skin on a cloudy day. Never skip a day. As long as you wash your face at night, it won’t clog your pores.

You should also apply it during the day, especially if you are going to be outdoors for prolonged periods of time. You should apply it to your face, ears, neck and hands. Yes, your hands. Our hands are one of the first places that we notice aging, along with our eyes. You should reapply sunscreen to your hands after washing.

Exfoliate Once a Week

Unfortunately, as we age, cell regeneration starts to slow down, so our body doesn’t shed dead skin cells and generate the new ones as often. As these dead skin cells start to build up on our skin, it can cause it to look rough, dry and dull. Dead skin cells can also clog pores which can lead to acne breakouts.

Exfoliation is important because it removes those dead skin cells while revealing the new ones at the same time. This helps moisturizers to penetrate the skin more effectively, which in turn will make your skin look younger and healthier.

You should exfoliate your skin (face and body) at least once a week. Again, you need to find the product that works best for you. If you can tolerate it more than once a week, then exfoliate every other day. Your skin will thank you and it will help you both look and feel years younger.
